Digital Future was engaged to appoint a CFO for a private equity-backed company in the security technology sector, offering an integrated portfolio of hardware and software solutions. Having entered its second private equity ownership cycle, the company was undergoing significant leadership transformation, including the recent appointment of a new CEO and CRO. The organization required a CFO capable of supporting the company through this transition and helping position the business for its next phase of growth and value creation.

Challenges

Key priorities included professionalizing finance processes, increasing automation, and building a lean and scalable finance organization aligned with private equity standards. The CFO was expected to establish robust forecasting, planning, and reporting structures to provide transparency and enable effective decision-making at investor and board level. At the same time, the role required an empathetic and hands-on leader who could quickly build trust with long-standing internal teams and form a close and effective partnership with the newly appointed CEO as a strategic and operational counterpart.

Profile

The ideal candidate was a private equity-experienced CFO with a strong background in technology-driven environments, ideally combining exposure to both hardware and software business models. Experience in subscription and SaaS transformation was highly relevant, alongside a pragmatic, execution-oriented mindset. Beyond technical expertise, the client prioritized strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative leadership style to ensure cultural alignment and organizational stability during a period of significant change.

Process & Strategy

The search was conducted under strict confidentiality and governed by NDA agreements, given the sensitivity of the broader C-level transition. In addition, a substantial blacklist due to strategic software partnerships further narrowed the potential candidate pool. Our targeted and discreet search approach focused on identifying CFOs with relevant private equity and technology experience, while ensuring strong personal and cultural fit. Despite these constraints, we successfully guided the client through an efficient and structured process.

Successful Placement

The company successfully appointed a private equity-experienced CFO with a strong track record across hardware and software environments and deep understanding of SaaS-oriented business models. The selected candidate quickly established credibility with both investors and internal stakeholders and is now playing a key role in strengthening the finance function, supporting organizational transformation, and enabling the company’s continued growth.
